이번 일요일에 과천에 있는 국립현대미술관을 갔다왔다.
국립현대미술관은 과천에 위치했는데 40년의 역사를 자랑하는 미술관이다.
하지만 과천에 있다보니 접근성이 떨어져 쉽사리 가지 못하는 곳이다.
미술관이란 것은 사람들의 접근성이 높아야 많은 작품들의 관람기회가 주어질 수 있는데 이처럼 과천에 위치하고 있다보니 과천근처에 살지 않는 서울시민으론 가기가 쉽지 않다.
개인적으론 이 부분이 너무나 아쉽다.
하지만
다행스럽게도 국립현대미술관이 소격동 기무사터에 별관을 짓는다는 반가운 소식이 들린다.
국립현대미술관은 가보신 분들은 아시겠지만
입구에 백남준선생님의 '다다익선'이 위치해 있다.

언제나 보면서 어떻게 저런것을 생각해냈는지 대단하단 생각밖에 안든다.
하지만 요즘은 때때로 저 많은 모니터들의 수명이 다하면 어떻게 교체하나란 걱정이 앞선다.
분명 예비 모니터들은 많지 않을 텐데 말이다...
그 '다다익선'주위로 강익중선생님의 '삼라만상'이 있다.

저 작품을 보면서도 역시 대단하다고 느껴진다. 약 1년동안의 기간을 통해 만들어졌고 전시한지 몇개월 되지 않았다고 한다.
저것또한 규모가 상당한데 주위를 둘러싸고 있는 저 많은 타일(?)은 누구의 손으로 만들어졌나가 또 내머릿속에 맴돈다. 아 누군가 또 엄청난 고행을 했구나하는...
국립현대미술관은 40년의 역사를 자랑하는 미술관이지만
그의 존재는 대개 딱딱했고 권위가 있었다.
'미술(art)'이란것은 항상 새롭고 신선하며 놀라움을 보여주는 것이지만
국립현대미술관은 마치 '국립현대미술박물관'의 느낌이었다는 것이다.

그러나!!
이번 인도현대미술전을 보고 나니 이전 생각을 완전 바꿀 수 있었다..
입구에 들어서면 우측서부터 시작해서 중앙홀, 좌측홀 순서대로 진행하게 되는데
우측홀의 첫번째 영상물은 인도의 맛을 한껏 느끼게 해준 작품이었다.
하지만 이것만으론 인도현대미술에 대한 갈증을 풀긴 힘들었다.
우측홀에 있던 것들은 인도의 전통적 미술에 기반을 두고 작업한 것과 인도 빈민가의 모습을 형상화한 것들이었는데 사실 이것만으론 뭔가 좀 약했다.
하지만
중앙홀과 좌측홀의 한작품 한작품을 볼 수록 그 진가가 드러났다.
우측홀을 지나 중앙홀 작품을 보고 좌측홀을 보면서 점점 그 특색있음에 빠져들었고 인도만의 개성이 드러나 무척 신선했다.

개인적으로 가장 마음에 드는 작품은
바르티 케르의 <피부는 자신의 것이 아닌 언어를 말한다>였는데
규모가 일단 있어서 압도당한것도 있지만 피부의 감을 살리기 위해 작업한 디테일이 좋았으며
덩치의 코끼리가 저렇게 힘이 빠진상태로 누워있는 모습이 어떤 감정을 불러일으켰기 때문이다.
쓰러져 있는 코끼리는 당당함의 몰락과 측은함, 다시 일어설수 없는 무게가 느껴졌기 때문이다.
사실 위 작품은 바로 뒤에 다른 작품과 한쌍을 이루고 있었는데
이 두작품을 한쌍으로 구상한건지 아니면 위치가 절묘하게 맞은 건지는 모르지만 두 작품이 썩 잘어울렸다.
평소 전시에서 볼 수 없었던 신선함과 인도 특유의 개성이 뭍어나는 작품들은 꽤 신선한 활력소가 되었으며 인도의 무서움을 또 한번 느끼게 해주었다.
어쨌든
인도현대미술.
너무 전통적이지도 않고 너무 서구적이지도 않은 스타일이 신선하다.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
